Melissa Watson, Palmer Pletsch and McCall
Melissa Watson is the daughter of Pati Palmer and it was only natural that she joined Palmer/Pletsch to bring the edgier, younger look to their product mix. Melissa has co-designed the DIY line for McCall’s and has just introduced a series of Learn To Fit video guides for these McCall Pattern designs
Those of you who have been sewing for a while will have heard of Palmer Pletsch but for those who haven’t. Palmer Pletsch has been teaching people to sew for more than 40 years but what’s special about its teaching methods is that the company has its own unique way of making sure that sewing patterns are fitted correctly for real-sized people.
Patterns in this range are: 6989 (dress), 6985 (shorts and wide-legged trousers), 6608 (maxi skirt) plus other Melissa Watson patterns for McCalls; 6834, 6791, 7132 and 7133.
In these short video tutorials, Melissa uses the Palmer/Pletsch Easy Tissue Fitting method in fitting three of her patterns. Each video embarks on different fit areas and addresses particular fitting issues to the specific design.
Tissue fitting sounds a scary issue to tackle but its simple when you know how and beginner’s can master it too. The Palmer/Plestch way of tissue fitting ensures that the garment will both fit and flatter each unique body by using a better less time consuming method than making a muslin, or taking lots of measurements to alter your commercial pattern.
