Great British Sewing Bee – series 7

What happened in Week 2?

It was ‘Summer Week’ in the sewing room, with three challenges themed around sewing clothes to look and feel cool in even the hottest days.

Pattern Challenge – Paperbag Shorts

The paperbag waistband is such a popular style at the moment but they might be a small garment, but creating this signature shape means perfecting pockets, tackling tricky turn-ups and wrestling an elastic waistband with a mind of its own!

What are paperbag shorts?

Paperbag shorts are where extra fabric has been used around the waist to create the look of a paperbag. Typically, the fabric is pleated and cinched in with a wide detachable belt.

Transformation Challenge

Next up was the transformation challenge; the sewers hit the beach sculpting second-hand men’s swimming gear into a woman’s outfit worthy of sunset cocktails, all in just 90 minutes.

Made to Measure Challenge

Finally, button-down sundresses are the focus of this Made to Measure challenge. As well as style, fit and finish, Esme and Patrick have their eagle eyes primed for perfectly aligned buttonholes and secure fastenings.

The results

Raph won the Pattern Challenge for his snazzy paperbag shorts.  In the beachy transformation, the winner was Adam for his stripey number!

Garment of week went to Adeena for her oh-so stylish self-drafted button front dress! And sadly, Jean left the sewing room!
