Ruth Maddock Makes sewing patterns

Ruth Maddock Makes has released a new collection of sewing patterns – especially for those with sensory challenges

This dress comes from the Tick Tock collection, and features a mis-matched pattern of a vintage dandelion print. This sewing pattern is available as a paper pattern or digital download. The sewing pattern has been designed for ages 3 years to 10 years, and is suitable for all children but especially those with sensory processing disorder, tactile defensiveness or autism. The seams are worked on the outside (so there are no nasty itchy seams or labels), and the dress can be worn over a T-shirt or tight clothing such as a polo top and leggings. It can also be worn either way round according to the child's preference as back and front are the same. The pockets contain tags onto which precious items can be fastened such at the pom poms shown here.

The pattern comes with full photographic instructions. The fabric shown in this photos is organic cotton knit ultra printed in the 'Tick Tock' design and available from www.spoonflower.com/profiles/ruthmaddockmakes.

UK Haberdashery makes an Environmental Stand with New Packaging Policy

Backstitch, the haberdashery at Burwash Manor goes plastic-free on packaging

AliceSyngeBackstitch.jpg

Parcels won't quite be tied up with string, but parcels from Backstitch will no longer use any plastic. As part of its commitment to reducing waste and environmental impact, Backstitch’s online customers will now receive their orders of fabric, yarn, patterns and haberdashery in recycled brown paper, ‘tied up’ with brown paper tape.
The move has been welcomed by many customers, and feedback is positive that the brown paper is not only strong and practical but also looks great. A recent online customer commented on the Backstitch Instagram account, ‘I really loved my brown paper packaged pattern I received last week, it felt really special!’
Backstitch has always used paper packaging for instore customers at the Burwash Manor based Haberdashery, but like many businesses had until now used plastic parcel bags for posting out their online orders.

Alice Synge of Backstitch says ‘The attitude towards packaging has taken a real shift recently and we're really behind this move. We've noticed a very clear change in behaviour in our Burwash Manor store with customers usually refusing even a paper bag for their purchases. Like so many people we are really worried about the impact of single use plastics and know that postal packaging is a contributing factor. We're proud to have made this move to eliminate plastic from our packaging.’

Backstitch is encouraging people to share their views on the no-plastic topic using #backstitchnoplastic.
