More dressmaking for The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show

The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show adds exciting new dressmaking content to its popular textile line up

If you like making your own clothes or freshening up your wardrobe then you’ll be pleased to hear that in addition to its much-loved textile art, craft and design line-up of workshops and galleries , The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show (28th February-3rd March at Olympia London) will have exciting new content dedicated to dressmaking.

At the show’s Spring Sewing School, top tutors will host an exciting programme of full and half-day dressmaking technique and upcycling workshops, including mastering the basics for beginners, making a garment in a day and intermediate skills for more experienced dressmakers.  All Sewing School workshop rooms include a pattern cutting area.

There’s also a Show Theatre featuring handmade fashion catwalks and live dressmaking competitions, plus a wide range of haberdashery suppliers.  The Fashion and Textile Museum will be hosting 50 Years of Fabulous, a showcase collection of garments from its forthcoming exhibition celebrating iconic British designer Zandra Rhodes’ 50th anniversary.

“Dressmaking is a satisfying skill, which with expert tuition gives you the knowledge you need to create stylish, handmade and unique outfits that save you money and the planet.  We’re excited to be shining a spotlight on dressmaking this year as well as offering all the fantastic textile art, craft and design features that our Spring show visitors know and love,” comments Katie Ventresca, Event Director at The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show.

The show also features an extensive workshop and demonstration programme covering an array of crafts, from traditional to contemporary knitting and stitching, wet and needle felting, embroidery, leather work and free motion machine embroidery, with a bigger emphasis on upcycling and remodelling.   There are also: gallery exhibitions by textile artists Ailish Henderson, Ariella Green, Catherine Kaufman, Luisa De Santi and the Quilters Guild; drop-in knitting and crochet lessons from UK Handknitting and advice clinics for a range of textile crafts; an Innovation Station showcasing the latest knit and stitch equipment; a bag for life design competition to reduce plastic bag usage; the stunning Enchanted Wood - an elaborate scene of knitted and crocheted magical creatures created by the Louise Hamilton Knit and Yarn Group and Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers, in aid of the Louise Hamilton Trust Appeal to build a 10-bed hospice unit at James Paget University Hospital in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk; and a new Sip & Stitch Bar combining hands-on stitching with a glass of Prosecco.  For those looking to add to their fabric stash, update their sewing machine or start a new knit or stitch project in the new year, over 150 specialist retailers will be on hand to help satisfy those shopping cravings.

For the second year running, The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show hosts The National Needlecraft Awards.  Developed by online needlecraft retailer SewandSo, the awards celebrate the world of needlecraft and recognise talent and skill.
