Rome Capsule Collection from Closet Case

Inspired by a trip to Rome, Closet Case has created the brand’s first capsule collection

The Rome collection has been designed as a chic capsule wardrobe, and is filled with simple to make and gorgeous to wear pieces that pair effortlessly with one another. Each pattern has been thoughtfully designed with beginners in mind, and is filled with enough interesting design details and variations to entice more advanced sewers too.
The collection includes three versatile sewing patterns – Pietra Pants & Shorts, Fiore Skirt and Cielo Top & Dress. All of the new patterns can be made with a wide variety of fabrics such as crisp wovens like linen, chambray, light to medium weight cottons, and drapey fabrics like rayon challis, silk and tencel.

The Fiore Skirt is a chic, high-waisted A-line skirt with just the right amount of flare and volume. This is a beginner friendly pattern with lots of variations and this elevated basic has tons of outfit potential. Available in above or below the knee lengths, this skirt sewing pattern has three views. View A is a simple flared skirt with an invisible zipper at the back, while view B is an asymmetrical wrap skirt with single hip pocket, and view C buttons up the front with curved patch pockets.

The Pietra Pants & Shorts are the best of both worlds and include a flat front, high-waisted silhouette with the comfort of an elastic waist in the back. Featuring lengthening panels in the front with slanted hip pockets and a hidden waist stay, you’ll never want to take them off. Choose between four leg styles: a wide leg in floor-skimming or cropped length (View A), a slim and tapered leg (View B), or gently flared shorts (View C).

The Cielo Dress & Top is an easy, breezy take on a boxy tee and shift dress, and loaded with interesting details and interchangeable features – it will fast become a wardrobe building favourite.

Choose between a semi-cropped top with a cuffed short sleeve (View A) or dramatic gathered long sleeve (View B). Or, make an easy fitting dress with sleek inseam pockets (View C), or without pockets (View D). All views have a slightly dropped shoulder, angled shoulder yoke and roomy fit, with a choice between an elegant bias binding or faced neckline finish.

Two new patterns from Helen's Closet

The Ashton top and Donovan skirt are the perfect combo for
everyday style!

The Ashton top is an all-season wardrobe staple that is easy to sew and style! Wear it during cooler months with jeans and a cardigan or pair it with shorts for summer. The Ashton has bust darts and a signature A-line shape. View A is a hip-length top and view B is a crop top, both ideal for pairing with high-waisted pants or skirts. Finish the neck and arms with an all-in-one facing or bias binding and the hem is finished using a beautiful facing. It can be made in a wide variety of woven fabrics such as light to medium-weight cotton or linen for a structured look. Silk crêpe de chine, Tencel twill, or rayon challis will result in an Ashton having more drape. Drapier fabrics work better for tucking into skirts or trousers whereas stiffer fabrics showcase Ashton’s A-line shape. The Ashton has been designed for advanced beginners and makes a great stash-buster! It also comes in a really good range of sizes from 0-30 (US).

View A is a midi-length with a modern side slit and view B is a summery above-the-knee length. Sew in light to medium weight woven fabrics with no stretch such as cotton (lawn, poplin, seersucker, shirting), linen, silk crepe de chine, poly crepe, and rayon/viscose challis or poplin work well. Structured fabrics will have more dramatic volume and drapier fabrics will have more fluid movement. It comes in a good range of sizes from 0-30 (US).

Expanded sizes for the Rush Hour Dress/Blouse from Liesl + Co.

Another indie sewing brand increasing its range of sizes for sewists. This the second pattern to be released in the new sizing 0-30 from Liesl + Co

This sewing pattern is really versatile and presents sewists with lots of options and now with extended sizing from 16-30. In addition to offering a practical and elegant sheath dress, there’s a fitted blouse with an asymmetrical peplum, which gives you the choice of whether to sew it sleeveless, with short sleeves, or with long sleeves.

Both the dress and the blouse include an invisible back zipper, and the dress has a walking vent. The blouse’s peplum has a gentle flare and is asymmetrical in a way that’s interesting and a bit unusual. Both styles are fully lined except for the sleeve, but you can easily line it if you really want.

Liesl + Co originally designed this pattern to be easily adjustable so you can customise it for your own body. The princess seams and Dior bust dart help with this, since with more seams you have more places to take in and let out. And since the pattern brand has included cup sizes with this pattern, a lot of the full bust adjustment work has already been done for you, letting the sewer focus on getting just the right fit for your body. The instructions talk you though when to check the fit and make any necessary adjustments, since with a fitted dress like this some fabrics are stretchier than others. That way you can get a perfect fit before it’s all sewn together.

The Rush Hour sewing pattern works well in woven fabrics like wool flannel and crepe but would be stunning in a floral sateen or in linen. You could use an apparel-weight canvas like one of those pretty Japanese fabrics and denim or other twills would be great. You could also get away with lighter fabrics for the blouse.

Expanded sizes for the Gelato Blouse + Dress from Liesl + Co.

It’s great to see another indie sewing brand increasing its range of sizes for sewists. This sewing pattern is the first pattern to be released in the new sizing 0-30 from Liesl + Co

The dress is a gentle A-line style, not too flared or too straight. It’s fitted through the shoulders so it looks neat and elegant, but it has just enough room through the body to keep you comfortable on the hottest days. The sweet angled double-welt pockets at the front are fun to sew and give you a place to put your hands or stash your keys!

The blouse option has a fun little peplum and button back. There are two sleeve options, which are interchangeable – a simple short sleeve and a three-quarter sleeve with a ruffle for a little flare. And while the Gelato Dress has a simple centre-back seam for more efficient fabric usage, the Gelato Blouse has a button-up back. Not because you need to fasten or unfasten the buttons, it’s just a pretty design detail! This sewing pattern also includes full instructions for doing a full bust adjustment.

You can easily mix and match style details. Remove the back button placket from the blouse and cut the blouse with the centre-back seam, add the button placket to the dress instead or add the 3/4 ruffle sleeve to the dress, sew the blouse with the short sleeve, maybe even drop the ruffle and lengthen it a bit to turn the peplum into a dress. It’s you make so sew the way you wnat to!

Choose from a variety of light- to medium-weight woven fabrics including quilting cotton, chambray, voile, lawn, shirting, poplin, broadcloth, linen, rayon, silk shantung or dupioni, wool suiting, and lightweight jacquard.
