Folkwear concentrate on sewing patterns from the past. This shirtdress is a beautiful example from the 1940s!
This shirtdress features square shoulders, narrow hips, and skirts that end just below the knee and were the height of fashion during this decade. Fabric rationing had lead to the use of darts, pleats, tucks, and other fabric manipulation to add interest to dresses without a lot of extra fabric.
This dress sewing pattern has an interesting bodice construction, with shoulder and waist pleats, darts, and a shawl-collar. Skirt darts create a flattering look while adding plenty of ease in the hip area. Elbow-length sleeves with cuffs make this nearly an all year-round dress.
Make in light to medium weight woven fabrics with drape such as cotton batiste and lawn, rayon challis, wool crepe, wool gauze, silk noil or silk crepe. This pattern does come in both printed and PDF format in sizes xs-3xl
